The Grammar Awareness Test is not a Spanish language test.
It is designed to assess your understanding of the grammar of your own language and your familiarity with basic grammatical concepts and terminology.
Successful language learning requires much more than memorising vocabulary. Learners need to understand concepts such as verbs, tenses, subjects, objects, adjectives, sentence structure and other fundamental grammatical elements.
Spanish is a language with a significant grammatical component. While communication is always our main objective, grammar plays an essential role in understanding how the language works and in achieving long-term progress.
In our experience, students who have little awareness of grammatical concepts in their own language often find learning Spanish considerably more difficult and, in some cases, frustrating. This is particularly common among complete beginners and students who have never studied a foreign language before.
For this reason, some students may be asked to complete our Grammar Awareness Test before lessons begin. The purpose of the test is to help us determine whether a student has the grammatical awareness required to follow our lessons effectively and benefit fully from our teaching approach.
The test is not an examination and there is no pass-or-fail result. It simply helps us evaluate whether our methodology is likely to be suitable for the student and whether any additional preparation or support may be advisable before starting lessons.
As experienced language teachers, we believe it is important to be transparent from the beginning. A student who lacks basic grammatical awareness in their own language may struggle significantly with Spanish grammar, regardless of motivation or effort.

In lessons we focus on areas that require professional correction and guidance:
Listening comprehension and reading comprehension are primarily self-study components.
Although we may analyse some tasks in class, we cannot read or listen for the student.
Reading comprehension often depends on vocabulary range and background knowledge, even in the student’s own language.
Exam success requires structured lessons combined with independent work.
Listening comprehension, written expression and spontaneous oral production are typically the last skills to stabilise in language development.
For this reason, consistent independent exposure and practice outside lesson time are essential.
